Brother MFC-5490CN Multi-Funtion Printer Review As you may be aware, the Brother MFC-5490CN is a multi-function inkjet printer. Even though many people are gradually switching away from inkjets, others still prefer them because they are cheaper and less complicated.  Since the Brother MFC-5490CN costs under $150.00 in many stores, it is a favorite with people that need a backup device or something cheap and easy to obtain. It should be noted that most people purchasing Brother products already know that the device will perform as well as others in a similar price range, but is not intended for heavy duty printing.

What users don't like about the product

·    Does not work well with envelopes

Laura Y. – I was happy enough with this printer until I had to print envelopes. Unfortunately, it is a disaster in this department. I lost a whole box of envelopes just trying to make it work. To make matters worse, the manufacturer could not recommend a viable solution for me.

Susan R. – Everyone kept telling me that Brother Products do not last long. However, I saw the price on the Brother MFC-5490CN and decided to give it a try. Most people got a month or two out of similar machines. I only got five pages before it smelled like something inside had fired up. Right after that, it stopped working altogether.

Overall, we feel this printer will work well enough for students or others that do not need to print a large number of pages at once.  It is also useful for anyone that wants a fax machine without having to waste extra space, and money, with multiple machines. If you need a low cost reliable color printer, the Brother MFC-5490CN is a good choice.
