How to find the Best Printer Ink for Your Jet Printer
Posted by on 8/25/2011 to Inkjet Printer Ink
If you are planning to use printer ink to refill your own cartridges, you may be having a difficult time determining which kits and ink supplies will work best. While you can usually read a list of compatible printers for each product, it may still help to consider some of the problems you may run into. In particular, if you are going to refill color printer tanks, the color of the dyes may not match what you were accustomed to. That said, if you are simply planning to refill a black cartridge, you may not find the color variances as disturbing.

Printer Ink Refill Kits

Individuals that have never refilled a cartridge before may be well served by using a printer ink refill kit. You should always buy one that is made specifically for your printer.  This is especially important if the cartridge is encrypted. Unfortunately, even if you add more ink to this type of cartridge, the cartridge will still report that it is empty.  Kits for this type of printer will usually include a device that allows you to reset the cartridge so it reports that it has enough printer ink.

Discounted and Clearance Printer Ink

Once you know how to refill cartridges, you may want to buy bulk ink. Since most refill kits come with a reusable filling station, you can easily save a good bit of money when you buy bulk printer ink. On the other hand, it is important to realize that the primary manufacturer of your printer most likely created a proprietary ink blend. Even if you find cheaper inks in the market, they may not exactly match the original ink in the following ways:

Diffusion on the paper may be different
Thinner inks may blur or not blend as well
    Thicker inks may clog ports
You may see more lines or other problems on printed pages

Buying Printer Ink Online

For the most part, you will find it best to buy printer ink online. Today, there are many reputable stores that carry printer ink that is compatible with specific printers. If you are not certain that a particular brand of ink will work in your printer, you can still try it and see what happens. Needless to say, if you are not happy with the print quality, or it damages the print head, you can start over again with a new cartridge and a different brand of ink.

There is no question that the cost of printer cartridges is outrageous.  While you will save a good bit of money by using refurbished cartridges, you may also want to delve into refilling them on your own.  Even though this is the cheapest option, you will need to be very careful about selecting the best printer ink. Unfortunately, if you buy the wrong brand, you will only waste time and effort to achieve poor quality printing on top of all the difficulties that may come with refilling cartridges with your own printer ink.
