Some Things to Know About Inkjet Cartridges
Posted by Ink Oasis on 12/5/2011 to Inkjet Printer Ink
Even though many people enjoy having a low cost printer, they tend to find that the cost of inkjet cartridges exceeds the value of the printer. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that a number of solutions have emerged to help resolve this problem. That said, if you truly want to save as much money as possible on inkjet cartridges, you will research printers carefully before you commit to buying.  In some cases, simply choosing one model over another from the same manufacturer can help you save more money than you imagined.

Choosing Printers Based on Inkjet Cartridges

When it comes to choosing a printer, you are always bound to be interested in print resolution as well as the number of pages it can print per minute. You should also ask a number of questions about inkjet cartridges.  This includes:

How much ink does each cartridge hold?
Is there a separate cartridge for black printing?
Will the printer work if the color cartridge is empty, but the black one is full?

Saving Money on Inkjet Cartridges

Today, many people look for cheap inkjet cartridges as a means to save money. This includes generic cartridges, remanufactured cartridges, and refillable ones. No matter whether you are looking for HP ink cartridges or Canon printer ink cartridges, you will usually find that refilling your own cartridges offers the greatest savings. That said, you may still need to buy a special workstation for refilling in order to get a chip re-setter so that the printer will recognize that there is enough ink in the cartridge.

Keeping Inkjet Cartridges in Good Condition

If you want to get the most out of inkjet cartridges, it is very important to keep them in good condition. For example, if you are not going to use the printer on a daily basis, you should take the cartridges out and store them in an airtight container. If this type of container does not come with the printer, you should be able to find one in a local department store. You should also try to wrap the lower part of the print head in plastic to reduce evaporation from inkjet cartridges as much as possible. Unfortunately, no matter whether you are using a new cartridge or a remanufactured one, dry ink will ruin the sponge.

For the most part, you will find that inkjet cartridges are not horribly complicated objects. That said, if you want to save money and get the most from each cartridge, there are some things you will always need to keep in mind. Invariably, saving money on inkjet cartridges will always start with finding out as much as possible about the cartridges before you even buy the printer. From there, finding cheaper cartridge solutions and taking care of the ones you have will help you save a good bit of money. As a general rule of thumb, you should be able to reduce the amount of money you spend on inkjet cartridges by at least 80% if you pay attention to details.
